Members include employers, transportation management associations, non-profits, government agencies and students interested in mitigating traffic congestion, increasing mobility and improving air quality. The Public Policy Council follows these issues at the federal and state level.
Public Policy Council Focus
The Public Policy Council of the Association for Commuter Transportation is North America's most respected association for professionals who specialize in transportation, air quality and energy issues. The Public Policy Council coordinates policy issues for the chapters spread across the country and retains an advocate in Washington to interact with the US Congress and keep ACT members informed.
The Public Policy Council also coordinates with the other ACT issue-focused Councils to address issues such as “double taxation” of teleworkers, the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) program, gas and energy prices, commuter tax benefits, and the capital cost of contracting for vanpools.
Public Policy Council Participants
Public Policy Council members represent a diverse cross-section of both public and private representatives who develop or manage a variety of transportation programs. Representatives are drawn from ACT Chapters and representatives are encouraged to coordinate policy issue at the local level and bring issues forward to address. The core group of participants represents transportation management associations (TMAs), regional and local governments, non-profits, and consultants who inform their communities about TDM programs.
