Esteban Sanchez is the Cofounder & CTO of Commutifi.

Commutifi is quantifying commuter behavior like never before. Our patented Commuter Score helps individuals, enterprises, real estate developers, and municipalities save time and money while reducing harmful carbon emissions.

We empower organizations to make data-driven mobility decisions about how employees and constituents get to and from work through a platform designed to encourage positive commuting behavior change. Our customers are better able to understand commuting behaviors, identify problem spots, and target the right incentives and programs for each commuter.

What are you and your organization seeking to achieve?

Commutifi wants every commuter around the world to be informed about their commute through their own Commuter Score. Commuting is not a one-solution-fits-all problem. Everyone has a different reality based on their unique situation, preferences, habits, activities, demographics, and more. We empower people and organizations to make data-driven decisions that lead to happier and more sustainable lives.

I believe that, by working together, we can transform our cities. By dedicating space for people instead of cars, we can move around freely by any mode without traffic or complications and enjoy green spaces everywhere we go.

How did you get to where you are today?

I’ve always been interested in using technology to solve real world challenges. This quickly drove me into entrepreneurship, where I’ve been able to grow multiple technology businesses and help bring dozens of innovative products to market.

As a citizen of a bustling city, I experienced first-hand the many problems facing the transportation industry. And while I kept seeing various disparate solutions trying to solve them, it seemed to me that something was missing. So just over 4 years ago, I co-founded Commutifi to solve these complex transportation problems in a holistic and data-driven manner.

With this passion for data-driven solutions, along with many years of hard work and dedicated partners and colleagues, we’ve created the most advanced commuter scoring platform in the world. Now, every stakeholder can get the metrics they need to collaborate towards creating a bigger impact.

How have you seen the TDM industry change?

We are at a crucial point in TDM, where the field is becoming more relevant than ever, but at the same time being challenged more and more by the fast evolution of new transportation technologies. The variety of modes, options, and transportation applications available to commuters are evolving at an increasing pace, with more and more data being generated and individual decisions being made quicker and more effectively.

This creates challenges for TDM organizations, as they now have to ensure they have the proper tools to stay relevant and put new technology and data to use. But technology also creates opportunities: opportunities to find solutions that can solve global challenges while being personalized and targeted to specific commuter needs; opportunities to better predict new programs and measure their precise impact; and opportunities to multiply the impact TDM has been having on society and shape better cities.

Where do you see the industry going in the next 10 years?

The industry will evolve towards being people-centered and measurable. With an increasing presence of public-private partnerships, technologies that enable sharing, access to on-demand mobility options, teleworking, and a new focus on lifestyle and quality of life, our decisions will need to be measured on the impact they have on people’s lives.

What keeps you motivated?

This is probably the entrepreneur in me speaking, but, above all else, I’m motivated by working on something I believe in. I need to know that I’m doing the most I can do to create an impact every day. If I’m not, I’ll make a change to ensure that I do. And it helps being surrounded by a great team and partners who help push me towards achieving these results.

What is a great piece of advice you have received? Have you put it to use?

Listen to your customers. When building a business, you know very well your industry and your product and have a defined idea of where you want to go. As you grow, this vision will evolve through customer feedback, challenges you face, and new solutions from your team. If you don’t integrate your customers into the feedback loop, you’ll miss out on the market.

At Commutifi, we’ve been building our business over many years by having a clear vision on where we see the future of transportation coupled with a deep understanding of our customers’ needs. This has helped us develop the best solution to the biggest problems in the industry.
