What are you and your organization seeking to achieve?
Our goal has always been to help organizations work successfully ‘outside the office box’. With the COVID-19 pandemic, our goal is to ensure organizations are able to avoid a major work disruption and maintain productivity during this time.
How did you get to where you are today?
In 2008, I was laid off from my state government position. It was a devastating time in my life and I funneled all of my frustration and fear into building my company. I knew I was passionate about telework. I truly believe that telework is one of the few initiatives that benefit both the employer and the employee simultaneously. I wanted more organizations to understand and embrace telework and experience the many advantages that can come from a successfully implemented telework program.
How have you seen the TDM industry change?
The TDM industry seems to change or evolve in waves and differs significantly depending on the geographical region you’re in. However, I can speak more specifically to the telework aspect of the TDM industry. In recent years, I’ve seen telework programs grow consistently in some regions and decrease in others. With the recent COVID-19 pandemic, the landscape of telework is forever changed.
Where do you see the industry going in the next 10 years?
With regards to telework, I see organizations who were not open to a telework program prior to the COVID-19 pandemic now saying they see some benefits to having a telework program beyond the pandemic. Other organizations are struggling to find their way and may have a negative view of telework. Regardless of opinions of telework, one thing is for sure…more organizations have dipped their toe into the waters of telework than ever before and now we can start to have real conversations about their experiences and how to move forward in the future.
What brought you to ACT? What has been the most memorable part of your involvement in ACT?
I worked as the Transportation Manager for a large university when I was introduced to ACT. ACT has been a part of my life in one aspect or another for many years. Whether attending a conference or reading articles, I’ve tried to stay connected. My most memorable part has been connecting with all of the TDM folks during the conference. It’s like a big reunion.
What keeps you motivated?
Personally, I am motivated by my family. Everything I do in some aspect is for them. Professionally, I’m motivated by seeing organizations achieve positive results. With Telework, there are so many positive results that affect the organization, managers, employees, the environment, our economy… that’s why I’m motivated to get up and do what I do.
