My name is Scott Lane, and I’m the sole employee / owner of J. S. Lane Company, LLC (est. 2010). My work is focused on bringing integrated urban design, transportation, land planning, economic, and sustainability resources to local, state, and federal government clientele.

What brought you to TDM/how did you get involved in the field?

I attended an on-line webinar and subsequently discussed the ACT organization with Elizabeth Denton. The overlap of my work and interests and those of ACT was significant, so I joined in January of 2021.

Why did you get involved in ACT? What has been the most memorable moment of your experience in ACT?

Since I just joined, I don’t have any moments as yet. I got involved because commuting challenges embrace equity, technology, and peak period alternative transportation concerns that come up often in my work. ACT seems to be a repository of thought leaders and information to address these types of challenges.

Within your work, what do you see as the future opportunities/challenges for TDM?

My work provides medium- and long-range transportation plans, grant information, research, and technical support to local (usually), state, and federal government agencies. As such, the challenges presented by peak period congestion and desires to increase transportation mobility, equity, access, and options in a cost-efficient manner are addressed frequently, but incompletely. Integrating technological change, particularly with respect to MaaS and MoD services, into longer-range studies is particularly poorly represented in the current practice and literature.
