I am a Portland area native, working for Alta Planning + Design in Portland. Prior to Alta, I worked for three nonprofits in the areas of affordable housing, transportation for seniors and people with disabilities, and employee commute options. I’ve been at Alta for just over two years and have had the pleasure of working on a number of safety campaigns, incentive programs, and marketing efforts in the PNW and beyond.

What brought you to TDM/how did you get involved in the field?
I went to the University of Oregon and chose a class at random from the freshman manual called Intro to Planning, Public Policy, and Management. I came home from that class and told my roommate “this is what I’m going to do” – so I did! My focus was urban planning until I took a three-week bicycle transportation study abroad course in Amsterdam and Copenhagen, where I quickly realized the beauty and importance of a sustainable, accessible, and multimodal transportation system.

Why did you get involved in ACT? What has been the most memorable moment of your experience in ACT?
I became an ACT member just a few short weeks ago. Several of my colleagues have been involved and find so much value in connecting with others in the field, sharing ideas, and expanding their network. I hope to step out of my introverted comfort zone and experience all of the above!

Within your work, what do you see as the future opportunities/challenges for TDM?
Right now, it’s hard to think about anything other than the post-pandemic return to work. The hesitancy people will have using shared modes combined with the opportunity for remote work or hybrid/flexible schedules is complex, but also very exciting. One thing is certain: Many people’s commutes will never look the same.
