What a year we have had! Looking back at the start of 2020, who would have thought the year would take us on the journey it did. Given the challenge COVID-19 presented, I think we accomplished so much more than we ever thought we could. More importantly, we uncovered the strength of our community. Our members, while scattered across the country, stepped up to help each other and learned that when we come together, we can accomplish anything. Now we must keep it going. Every chance I get I encourage you to be more engaged as I know you will get back so much more than you put in.
This year we had more than 30 members develop the “Supporting Commuters Returning to the Worksite During COVID-19” document that continues to be used by members and communities to inform safer commute options. More than 60 members inspired by the events happening around the country came together to form the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I) Task Force which led to the approval of a new DE&I Committee by the ACT Board of Directors. During the early months of the pandemic, hundreds of members came together for weekly Virtual Discussions, which has now transitioned to a permanent addition to ACT’s programming. More than 50 members joined together to form a study group for the inaugural TDM-CP exam.
It was truly wonderful to see you engage and find your part within our community; creating value and supporting each other as well as our industry; and moving us forward despite the challenges. It was impressive, inspiring and encouraging.
Now, we have finally made it to 2021, and there is a light at the end of the proverbial tunnel. ACT continues to focus on implementing our strategic plan. With the new Biden-Harris Administration we will continue to advocate for TDM and the advancement of our MORE Through TDM legislation. We will continue developing Connect, launch our new online PALs mentoring program and we plan to host our first in-person event in 18-months with our International Conference this summer at Disney World. I really look forward to seeing many of you in person!
I want to thank you all for continuing to inspire me and for coming together this year to keep the wheels turning! A special thank you to the leadership from ACT’s Chapters, Councils, Committees and the National Board of Directors; you brought us through a crazy year and because of you, we are a stronger organization. Happy New Year!
