Workshop - Applying Behavioral Science to Transportation Demand Management

Drawing on decades of rigorous research, the Behavioral Insights (BI) approach applies evidence about the drivers of human behavior to address real-world problems. Participants in this workshop will receive a hands-on introduction to BI, with the goal of developing the knowledge and skills to apply this approach to their unique TDM challenges.

Participants will first develop an understanding of the core concepts of the BI approach, leveraging real-world examples. Facilitators will then guide participants through a series of activities for using BI in practice. All participants will have the opportunity to apply BI to a TDM challenge they are currently facing.

This workshop will be led by facilitators from the Behavioral Insights Team (BIT). As leaders in the field of BI, BIT has trained more than 40,000 civil servants and practitioners in BI. BIT facilitators will draw on this experience to equip participants with new tools to address their challenges.

Key takeaways / learning outcomes

After attending this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify factors that influence people's behavior and design solutions to promote behavior change
  • Begin applying BI to address their unique TDM challenges
