Executive Director's Report June 2026

As we close out the first half of the year, I've been reflecting on just how much this community has accomplished, and how much momentum we're carrying forward. These past few months have shown ACT at its best: members stepping up to lead, connecting with colleagues at events throughout the country, and raising their voices to advocate for TDM, which was front and center this week.
More than 30 members dedicated their time to participate in ACT’s Virtual Fly-in, meeting with U.S. Senate offices to champion TDM within the reauthorization of the Surface Transportation bill. Together, we focused our efforts on advancing the Maximizing Transportation Efficiency Act, legislation that would further recognize and support the role TDM plays in improving mobility, reducing congestion, and maximizing transportation investments. I want to extend my sincere thanks to every member who participated. Advocacy can sometimes feel like a long game, but meaningful progress only happens when we are willing to share our expertise and tell the story of our work and the benefits it delivers to countless millions.
Looking forward, I’m excited to share that ACT Board nominations are now open. Serving in a leadership role within a professional trade association is one of the most rewarding experiences our industry has to offer. It provides an opportunity not only to help guide the future direction of ACT, but also to contribute to the growth and advancement of TDM as a profession and a powerful tool for positive change in our communities. Our volunteers and leaders play an essential role in ensuring that ACT remains innovative, responsive, and impactful. If you've ever found yourself with an opinion about where ACT should be headed (and let's be honest, many of you have), this is the moment to do something with it. Leadership in this organization is one of the most rewarding things I've watched people take on, and we need fresh voices to keep us sharp.
This fall, ACT will lead a TDM delegation to the Netherlands. There's a reason we keep looking to the Dutch, they've built a culture around mobility that most of us only sketch on whiteboards and praise in conference rooms. But this trip is about more than admiring great bike infrastructure (though there will be plenty of that). It's about standing in places where the ideas we champion are simply how life works, talking with the people who made it happen, and bringing those lessons home in a way that actually moves the needle for your community. Delegations like this change how you see your own work. You come back with new collaborators, new evidence, and frankly, new energy. If you've been on the fence, consider this your nudge — spots are limited and they won't last.
Whether you are considering a leadership role through board service, taking advantage of opportunities to learn from global best practices, or helping advance our policy priorities through advocacy, each of these activities reflects what makes ACT special. We are a community of professionals who believe in the power of engagement.
As we move into the second half of the year, I encourage each of you to find a new way to engage. Raise your hand for leadership. Say yes to a new learning opportunity. Make your voice heard through advocacy. Register to attend the International Conference. You never know which conversation, meeting, or experience will spark the next big idea—or the next chapter in your professional journey.
Thank you for your continued commitment to ACT and to advancing the practice of TDM.
