Policy Alert: A Path Forward Remains for Surface Transportation Reauthorization
Dear ACT Members,
Yesterday, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee (T&I) introduced the Building Unrivaled Infrastructure and Long-term Development for America’s 250th Act (BUILD America 250). While we are disappointed to share that the proposals within the Maximizing Transportation Efficiency Act didn't make it into the base text of the Surface Transportation Reauthorization bill in the House of Representatives, the process is far from over, and we have clear steps moving forward.
Rep. Strickland (D-WA) will be introducing an amendment during the House T&I Committee markup this week (tentatively May 21) that includes the codification of TDM — keeping our priorities squarely on the table. This is how the legislative process works, and we are ready to keep up the fight. If the amendment is adopted and this legislation ultimately becomes law, TDM will be codified into federal law – and that outcome is still very much within reach.
ACT members who live in the districts of T&I Committee members will be receiving a separate email with specific actions you can take to urge your Representative to co-sponsor Rep. Strickland's amendment. If you receive that email, we ask that you act quickly — markups move fast, and timely outreach makes a real difference.
ACT will continue to keep you informed and engaged at every step of this process. Thank you for your efforts to support TDM.
