What motivated you to pursue the TDM‑CP certification?
When the TDM-CP certification was announced, I was invited to participate as part of a beta group and my employer at the time, The Destination Sales & Marketing Group (Arlington Transportation Partners), also encouraged and supported my participation.
I was excited to sit for the exam to further my career in TDM, with hopes that it would further my expertise and standing in the field and continue my professional development.
What career opportunities (promotions, new roles, leadership responsibilities) became possible because of your TDM‑CP?
During my first cycle as a TDM-CP, I received a promotion to a director-level role with my previous employer and was ultimately recruited by a TDM consulting firm specifically because of my TDM-CP designation, which led me to take a new position where I experienced tremendous growth in the following years.
What long‑term value has the TDM‑CP added to your career trajectory?
Having a TDM-CP designation has also continued to add value to my own career as well as my company over the years. There have been multiple instances where clients have specifically chosen to work with my firm over other competitors due to my designation as a TDM-CP which they feel adds legitimacy and expertise when they have needed to deliver a strong plan or product to overcome a challenge.
These opportunities have led both to the growth of my firm as well as contributed to my own professional growth, being able to work on diverse projects with specific challenges where TDM can be a real solution.
What advice would you give someone who is considering taking the TDM‑CP exam?
Go for it! There are many resources now to support people who are interested in taking the exam, which continue to improve and evolve with our industry.
I learned a lot in the process of studying for and taking the exam. It’s a great way to support your career progression and can be useful in how you support or look at projects – helping you connect different elements of TDM and ensure technical and historical knowledge of the industry. It has easily been the biggest value-add to my career.
