Patriot Chapter Fall Into TDM Event
October 13-14 | Providence, RI
The ACT Patriot Chapter’s Fall into TDM Summit is a two-day regional event bringing together Transportation Demand Management (TDM) professionals, partners, and practitioners from across the Northeast to connect, share ideas, and learn from one another. Held October 13–14 in Providence, Rhode Island, the Summit will feature presentations and discussions focused on real-world TDM programs, emerging strategies, lessons learned, and innovative approaches to helping people access more sustainable, affordable, and convenient transportation options.
Attendees will leave with practical ideas and examples they can apply within their own communities, workplaces, campuses, and programs; new perspectives on the challenges and opportunities shaping TDM across the region; and stronger connections with peers working toward similar mobility goals. The Summit is designed to be collaborative and engaging, creating space to exchange experiences, ask questions, build partnerships, and come away inspired with new approaches to advancing TDM.

TMAs/TMOs frequently recruit folks into TDM from outside the industry – what’s the key to finding and recruiting people with TDM potential? Learn from experienced industry professionals who have built a legacy of finding good people – what do they look for? Where have they found the best folks? What do they avoid or watch out for?
This session will be old-school panel discussion; no slides, just a conversation about lessons learned and lots of time for audience questions!
Reinvigorating Carpooling: What ACT's State of Carpooling Study Means for Practitioners
A roundtable discussion | October 1 at 2 p.m. ET
ACT released the State of Carpooling 2026: Global Trends, Case Studies, and Implications, the first comprehensive assessment of carpooling practice in decades. The study's goal was to develop best practices and lessons learned by examining 10 high-performing carpool programs in the US and abroad. It found that programs differed widely due to their varying circumstances and structures, meaning no single set of best practices could be applied uniformly across programs. Instead, the study developed a Carpool Program Diagnostic Framework that allows organizations operating carpool programs to identify and strengthen the conditions that contribute to stronger performance.
Join us for a discussion on the significance of the study's findings and how practitioners can use the Framework to improve program performance. The study's lead author, Mia Zmud of Blue Door Strategy & Research, will provide an overview of the study and the Diagnostic Framework.
Attendees will then have the opportunity to discuss several questions arising from the findings:
- How does the Framework compare to what TDM program managers and organizations actually experience in operating their carpool programs?
- Does the Framework offer a useful way to assess performance?
- And how can we translate the Framework into a practical tool for assessing program strengths, identifying performance gaps, and prioritizing future investments?
