Navigating the 4-day Commute: Redesigning Employee Shuttle Programs

Thursday, December 7, 2023
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM (EST)

Zoom

Event Details

There’s tremendous value in employer-sponsored shuttles, though programs look much different than they did pre-pandemic due to compressed workweeks. The surge in workers driving themselves costs 20% more time and 31% more money – a whopping $578 billion per year (Fortune). This webinar will help TDM professionals understand these new dynamics and re-structure services for commuters that increase sustainability, commuter satisfaction, and business growth.

Panelists:

  • Moderator: Marc Rivers, Proposal Manager, National Express Shuttle (WeDriveU) and Transit
  • Lyndel Fusello, Transportation Program Manager, Google
  • Heather Salem, Principle Program Manager - Commute Operations Lead, Genentech
  • Meegan Watts, Transportation Program Analyst - Global Places and Services, CBRE | Nike Account

Meet the speakers:

Lyndel Fusello, Transportation Program Manager at Google, manages shuttle operations for Google sites globally, focusing her efforts on service planning and expansions. This service cumulatively represents roughly 400 vehicles across all sites creating an exciting set of operational complexities requiring innovative approaches and solutions.

Heather Salem, TDM-CP is currently the Principal Transportation Program Manager responsible for commuter transportation operations at Genentech, a biotech company in South San Francisco, CA. Genentech offers a wide variety of commuter transportation options for its employees and employees of neighboring companies, including 70+ buses and shuttles, 2 private ferries, vanpools, carpools, reimbursements for public transit fares, incentives for people who bike and walk to work, and on-campus parking. Heather has over 11 years of experience in transportation operations and the TDM industry. She is a passionate advocate for all modes of transportation and has a special place in her heart for passenger ferries and hovercraft services.

Marc Rivers has worked in the TDM industry for the past eight years, where he has pursued his passion for providing active, equitable, and sustainable commute options. Prior to his current role with National Express/WeDriveU, he served as the Program Manager for Nike World Headquarters’ Employee Transportation program, where he delivered countless shared rides through fixed-route shuttles, on-demand taxis, bicycles, and transit. Marc is a recipient of 2019’s ACT 40 Under 40 award and a founding member of Zero Emissions Leadership Coalition, where he works with other TDM professionals to advance the adoption of zero emissions vehicles and the sharing of best practices.

Meegan Watts - Since her start as an AmeriCorps director in her youth, Meegan has focused on community engagement through volunteering and organizing for neighborhood associations and local nonprofits. Her academic endeavors in urban planning, and time spent abroad in Copenhagen studying urban design, have aligned with her paid work in commuter focused transportation programming. Over the last few years working for large NW employer, she has co-created an e-bike loaner program, relaunched an e-bike bikeshare system, opened a commuter bike shop, redesigned bike infrastructure, and helped write policies to support these projects. When not thinking about commute initiatives, she’s gardening, hiking, and ensuring her aging cat lives a life of luxury.
