Breakout sessions

  1. TDM and Housing: Unlocking affordable housing with better transportation options
The Houston region has long enjoyed a reputation for abundant affordable housing, but when you factor in the cost of transportation, the affordable housing supply dwindles. We will focus on ways to make housing more affordable with better transportation options and policies that make housing and transportation better together.
    Featuring speakers:
    • Robin Holzer, Executive Director of LINK Houston

  2. Connecting Transportation Demand Management to Resiliency and Sustainability

Transportation Demand Management (TDM) has long been recognized as a powerful strategy for reducing congestion and influencing travel behavior—but its role extends far beyond peak-hour traffic relief.

This interactive panel will explore how TDM strategies—such as telework programs, flexible scheduling, mode shift incentives, mobility hubs, and integrated multimodal planning—can help communities reduce emissions, improve air quality, and build resiliency into transportation networks.

    Featuring speakers:
    • Pharr Andrews, Principal Planner, H-GAC
    • Shirley Li, TxDOT
    • Jacob Barret, TDM Program Manager, Austin Transportation and Public Works

Presentations will highlight the role of mobility hubs and land use coordination, development guidelines that support multimodal access, and even sustainability initiatives—like climate justice planning can reduce emissions and expand transportation choices for all residents.

  1. Evolving Transit: Innovative Solutions to Meet Changing Community Needs

Public transit is undergoing rapid transformation as agencies respond to shifting travel patterns, evolving consumer expectations, and ambitious climate goals. Today’s riders expect flexibility, seamless payment, sustainability, and integration with other mobility options.

Students, faculty, and staff travel throughout the day and week—for classes, research, events, healthcare, athletics, retail, housing, and social activities. This breakout session will explore best practices, challenges, and key considerations for managing travel demand across the full spectrum of campus-related trips—not just the journey to and from work or class. Panelists will share practical strategies for influencing mode choice, reducing drive-alone trips, and supporting multimodal access for academic, residential, and mixed-use environments.
