2024-2025 ACT Board Spotlight: John Andoh

Member Spotlights,

John Andoh is the Transit General Manager of the Redding Area Bus Authority, a Northern California Chapter member, and a returning member of ACT's Board of Directors. Meet John and learn more about him in this March board spotlight!

John Andoh has worked in transportation for 30 years, and though his titles have changed, his love of transit and improving community mobility has stayed the same. Prior to his current role as the Transit General Manager for the Redding Area Bus Authority, he has held roles surrounding transit at all levels, including Transit Director, Assistant Transit Manager, Transit Coordinator, and Transit Intern.

Throughout his time in the industry, John has enjoyed his ability to help others achieve a proper quality of life through transportation. He is passionate about public transportation and creating mobility solutions, both of which have been a driving motivation in his career.

"I am a believer in mobility and reducing congestion. TDM can help achieve that through incentives, mobility options such as vanpools, shuttles, emergency ride home programs, and carpool matching as examples while coordinating these activities with transit operations," says John. "I have been working in the industry since age 13 as an intern and at age 20 as a manager or director. I'm 43 now."

Since first joining ACT more than ten years ago, John has enjoyed the association's strong community network. He joined ACT's Board of Directors in 2022 and is currently serving his second term as an At-Large Director. Among John's goals as a leader in the organization are continuing to foster collaboration opportunities with AASHTO and evaluating how to better integrate microtransit into TDM practices.

"I started being active with ACT in 2011 and learned about how I could better integrate TDM activities into public transportation," said John. "Since then, I wanted to help recommend policy to advance TDM goals and practices nationwide, which sparked my interest to seek election to the board."

One of his favorite aspects of ACT is the many opportunities to form bonds with other industry professionals. He fondly recounts networking at the 35th Annual International Conference in Orlando as well as a board outing in EPCOT.

Outside of work, John is a volunteer historic trolley operator. He is also a theme park and roller coaster enthusiast.

As a member of ACT's Board, John looks forward to continuing discussions about TDM at the national scale. Please join us as we welcome returning member John to ACT’s 2024-2025 Board of Directors!
