ACT recently released its State of Carpooling 2026: Global Trends, Case Studies, and Implications, the first comprehensive assessment of carpooling practice in decades. The study's goal was to develop best practices and lessons learned from examining 10 high-performing carpool programs in the US and abroad.
It found that programs differed in many ways due to their circumstances and structures lacking any set of best practices that could be uniformly applied to other carpool programs. Instead, it developed a Carpool Program Diagnostic Framework that allows organizations that operate carpool programs to identify and strengthen conditions that contribute to better performing programs.
