TDM Week 2025 Chapter Activities

Back to main TDM Week page

As noted in the TDM Week guidance document, this year’s observance will have a strong policy focus. All chapters are asked to take action during TDM Week, and councils are encouraged to support and engage with these activities. There may be opportunities to collaborate between chapters and councils.

All chapters are asked to submit their plans for TDM Week by Friday, June 27. If you are hosting an event, please submit details through ACT’s meeting request form. Otherwise, please email your plans to Allison Caravella.

If chapters are holding events, their registration form must be created through ACT’s website. It also must be branded as an ACT event. Other organizations are welcome and encouraged to host events during TDM Week, but ACT will solely be promoting those (website, email, social) that align with this guidance.

There are many ways to engage, but some to activities to consider are:

1. “TDM Policy 101” Lunch & Learn (In-Person or Virtual)

A virtual or in-person session introducing the basics of TDM policy. Could include TDM success stories in the region.

2. TDM Legislative Watch Briefing (In-Person or Virtual)

Hold a briefing on key state or federal legislation impacting commuter programs, transit, or multimodal infrastructure. Consider inviting a policy analyst or lobbyist to provide insights.

3. Public Policy Panel Discussion (In-Person or Virtual)

Convene local government officials, MPO staff, and transit leaders for a panel on what policy tools are (and aren’t) being used to support TDM—and what’s next.

4. Policy & Pastries: Community Listening Session (In-Person or Virtual)

Invite chapter/council members to share challenges and ideas, then discuss how TDM policies can help. Great way to blend grassroots input with policy exploration. The event could be virtual - BYOP (bring your own pastry)!

5. Invite a Legislator to Speak (In-Person or Virtual)

Whether virtually or in-person, have a local, state, or federal elected official speak to TDM and transportation issues in the region. You may even hold time for a Q&A for chapter/council members to engage in conversation with their representatives.

6. Day in the District (In-Person)

Venture to your Congressperson or Senator’s district office to meet with their staff to educate them on TDM policy, [specifically highlighting ACT’s bill codifying the definition of TDM, implementing a rural TDM pilot program, and more (TBD)].

7. TDM Education Day at the Capitol (In-Person)

Spend the day at your state’s capitol taking meetings with legislative staff to educate them on the implementation of TDM policies.

8. Zoom Meeting with Congressional Staff (Virtual)

Join a virtual call with staffers from your member of Congress or Senators’ team to educate them on the basics of TDM policy. Help them understand the necessity of TDM practices in your community. ACT can assist in scheduling where needed.

9. “Policy in Action” Field Tour (In-Person)

Take participants on a walking, biking, or transit tour showcasing local infrastructure and how policy has shaped it—paired with stops highlighting successful employer or municipal TDM programs.

10. Advocacy Skills Workshop (In-Person or Virtual)

Train members on how to effectively communicate with elected officials, write compelling testimony, and advocate for TDM in their communities.

11. “Write Your Rep” Drop-In Station (In-Person or Virtual)

Either set up a station at a TDM Week event (in-person), or hold a zoom session (virtual), where attendees can write quick postcards or emails to legislators supporting pro-TDM policies (templates provided, of course!).

12. One-Pagers or Research Reports

Bringing quality information to Congressional offices is critical to advancing ACT’s policy goals. Task your council or chapter with creating an informational one-pager or research report on a particular TDM policy issue or a TDM policy win. (ACT can provide a template)

13. Share a TDM Policy Win

Share a thoughtful post highlighting a TDM policy success story! Make sure to share as much information as possible to help others learn how to secure a win for their TDM policy goals.

14. Write a Letter to the Editor (LTE) or Op-Ed About a TDM Policy Priority

Help build momentum around a policy priority by writing an LTE or op-ed for a local news outlet. (ACT can provide pointers and an outline)

Though these are some activities to consider, your chapter can come up with an idea not listed here if it aligns with the policy education focus. We encourage you to think creatively about your region, members, and the types of activities that connect and energize them!
