Executive Director's Report September 2025
As this year marks ACT’s 40th Anniversary—four decades of advancing commuter transportation and Transportation Demand Management, we plan to spend time each month reflecting on what ACT has achieved. From humble beginnings to becoming the premier voice for TDM, our journey has been driven by passionate professionals like you who believe in building better journeys for everyone.
For me, ACT has been part of my professional journey from the very beginning. In 1999, fresh out of school and just starting my career, ACT was the first professional association I joined. At my very first Patriot Chapter meeting, they announced a need for a volunteer Secretary. I raised my hand—despite the fact that I could barely read my own handwriting when taking notes!
That small step launched a path that took me from Chapter President to International Conference Chair, to the National Board, and ultimately to the role of Executive Director.
As we celebrate ACT’s 40th Anniversary, I invite you to join us in honoring this incredible journey—reflecting on our past while boldly shaping our future.
On the topic of shaping our future, I’m pleased to share the results (below) of our recent Board of Directors election. Please join me in congratulating the dedicated leaders elected to serve, and in thanking all candidates who stepped forward to contribute their talents. ACT’s strength lies in this remarkable community of members who lead and serve at every level.
On the professional development front, momentum is growing. More members are pursuing the TDM-Certified Professional (TDM-CP) credential, underscoring our commitment to raising the bar for the field. And we are equally excited to announce the launch of the TDM Accredited Organization (TDM-AO) program—recognition designed to showcase organizations setting the standard for TDM excellence. Together, these programs elevate both individuals and institutions, advancing our collective impact.
Last week, a group of ACT members gathered in Washington, D.C. for our annual Fly-In. This was an opportunity to carry the voice of TDM directly to policymakers, strengthening relationships, elevating priorities, and ensuring that our work is seen as essential to supporting America’s families and workforce with efficient and affordable transportation options. Stay tuned for an exciting announcement on a new piece of TDM legislation in Congress!
And looking ahead, I invite you to join us for the TDM Forum in Portland, October 28-29. This event has become a space for deeper dialogue, peer learning, and idea exchange—an opportunity to sharpen our skills, expand our networks, and bring home innovative solutions important to your programs. This year’s program focuses on TDM for Events, Airports, Making the Business Case for TDM, and Parking as a TDM Strategy. We have great speakers joining us from around the globe and two keynote speakers who promise to leave you inspired.
Thank you for being part of this incredible journey.
