Executive Director's Report May 2026

General News,

Over the past several months, I’ve been reflecting on the evolving role ACT plays, both for our members and for the broader field of professionals focused on delivering transportation options. At its core, the value of ACT membership is grounded in connection: connection to ideas, to peers, to opportunities, and to a field that is continuously growing and adapting to new challenges.

We see this every day in the work our members are doing, and in the collective progress we’re making together. This week, I had the opportunity to share some of that momentum in an op‑ed for Streetsblog, where I highlighted examples from our 2025 Global TDM Impact Report on how communities across the U.S. are reducing reliance on single‑occupancy vehicles. It’s a powerful reminder that the work happening across our membership is driving real change, and that ACT plays an important role in elevating and connecting those efforts.

That mission is also reflected in our continued advocacy at the federal level. As Congress released the BUILD America 250 surface transportation reauthorization bill, ACT remains actively engaged in efforts to codify a clear definition of Transportation Demand Management. While we were disappointed that this language was not included in the initial bill, we remain vigilant and committed to advancing this priority as the legislative process moves forward. Establishing a clear definition is critical to ensuring TDM is recognized, supported, and funded as a core strategy within our transportation system.

As we continue this work, leadership within ACT remains essential. Our Board of Directors plays a central role in guiding the organization’s direction, and I encourage members to consider participating in the upcoming Board elections, which open in June with a call for nominations. Board service is an opportunity to help shape not only the future of ACT, but the trajectory of the profession.  If you have interest in learning more about serving on the Board, please reach out to me.

Creating opportunities for connection and engagement also remains a priority. On June 25, we will host ACT’s first virtual Annual Membership Meeting, a new format designed to bring our members together in an accessible and meaningful way. This is an important moment to reflect on our progress, share updates, gather feedback, and ensure that we remain aligned with what matters most to you as members.  There will also be prizes!

Looking ahead, I’m excited to announce that we will be hosting the 2027 TDM Forum, April 6-7, in Minneapolis, a city that stands as a shining example of how embracing TDM can expand mobility choice and improve quality of life. Save the date, as this will be an important opportunity to connect, collaborate, and continue advancing our work with our friends in the Bike Capital of America.  Be sure to check out the great summary of the sessions and discussions captured in the just released recap of our 2025 TDM Forum to see what you won’t want to miss.

ACT’s strength has always come from its members, the ideas you bring, the work you do, and the commitment you share to improving mobility and expanding choice. Thank you for being part of this community and for the role you play in moving our field forward.

I look forward to continuing this work together.
