ABOUT THIS POSITION

The WAY TO GO Program Coordinator provides commuter resources to individuals and employers in the Kansas City region, helping to create transportation options for area workers. This position establishes and maintains productive relationships with regional employers and mobility partners for the purpose of promoting commute options beyond driving alone. The program coordinator helps reach the region’s goal of increasing the use of transportation options such as carpooling, walking, bicycling, public transportation, telecommuting and other mobility options to improve air quality, reduce carbon emissions and reduce congestion. This position assists in the management of MARC’s WAY TO GO and Air Quality programs. This role is responsible for communication and coordination with MARC program committees, Climate Environment Council, other environmental programs’ projects, and Connected KC 2050.


What you’ll do:

Program Management

  • Identify and develop opportunities to promote alternative forms of transportation, including carpooling, transit, vanpooling, bicycling, and related programs to better support area employers, colleges, universities, and schools.
  • Research and identify prospective employer partners and opportunities to promote WAY TO GO and Air Quality. Work with the program manager and other agency staff to pursue opportunities and leads.
  • Manage special program initiatives, including WAY TO GO’s annual Green Commute Challenge.
  • Manage the program’s ride-matching/trip planning software service contracts and serve as the primary contact with vendor.
  • Provide support for MARC’s work, increasing access to jobs, in partnership with regional mobility partners.
  • Oversee the Guaranteed Ride Home Program, including approving reimbursement requests.
  • Create special campaigns throughout the year, such as Green Commute Challenge and Bike Month.
  • Stays current on transportation demand management strategies and best practices. 
  • Manage the WAY TO GO mobility partnership (transit providers and transportation advocacy groups) and work plan.

Public Outreach & Education

  • Market tailored options to employers and engage them in an ongoing conversation about the value of providing alternative transportation benefits to employees.
  • Coordinate with mobility partners (transportation providers, advocacy groups, and others as needed) and MARC’s public affairs staff on outreach events, communications, planning, and special initiatives.
  • Track outreach activities and maintain contact databases, including documentation.
  • Create ongoing fresh content for promotional materials, web content, and social media while maintaining WAY TO GO brand standards.
  • Provide customer service (email and by phone) to individuals and employers seeking assistance with transportation options.

Administrative

  • Prepare and deliver high-level reports, presentations, and correspondence for executive and elected leadership, as needed.
  • Manage WAY TO GO’s web presence and determine strategic direction for content on the web and social media.
  • Collect and manage data related to program usage and communications to evaluate the effectiveness of the program and its campaigns. Uses evaluations to inform ongoing strategy.

Skills you’ll need

  • Possesses knowledge of transportation and environmental planning.
  • Ability to stay current on new, or changes to, transportation options in the Kansas City region.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, diagrams, and specifications relating to transportation and environmental planning.
  • Ability to understand documentation related to grants, compile grant application packets, track contracts and due dates for reporting.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers from diverse backgrounds and work effectively in a team environment.

Basic requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, regional or transportation planning or a related field.
  • Minimum two years of experience working with active and sustainable transportation, planning and environmental organizations (non-profit, private, or public sector).
  • Prior experience with community outreach, event planning and public speaking preferred.
  • Certifications: None.
  • Licenses: None.
  • Any equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, education, and experience may be considered to meet minimum qualifications.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

Starting salary for this position is from $57,500 to $75,000 per year, depending upon qualifications. MARC offers an attractive team-oriented work environment along with a competitive fringe benefit package. MARC offers employees the flexibility to work remotely for up to two days per work week.
